This CD debuts 20 Johnny Mathis classic as well as hard to find songs for the first time in STEREO. Mathis recorded them in the days of 1-channel monaural (which is NOT a natural sound). Now, new audio technology called “DES” (Digitally Extracted Stereo) makes it possible to take a mono master and separate the instruments and vocals into individual tracks that can then be mixed into authentic-sounding stereo with true channel separation. 

It’s a laborious and time-consuming process—akin perhaps to restoring an old master canvas that has been painted over. But you hear much more detail in the original music, and Johnny really comes alive!

On Deep River you get to hear John sing a cappella with just a choral backing.
