JIM REEVES HIS COUNTRY ROOTS (New overdubs and rare songs)
$ 13.95 $ 14.95
This unique (2024) CD presents 20 tracks by the great Jim Reeves including songs that were not even known to exist until they made their worldwide debut on the VoiceMasters label! None of these were recorded for RCA; all were done by Jim in other studios and even in his home, and consist mainly of demos. All have been expertly restored for superb audio quality, and overdubbed by big-league pro musicians. They are fantastic!
The earliest song dates from 1948 and is one which nobody knew he'd done during his days as an announcer at KGRI radio in East Texas -- "How Many Tears From Now." We've given it a lively arrangement. The most historic selection is no doubt "I'm A Hit Again," which Jim recorded in the basement studio in his home a few days before that fateful Friday in July 1964. It had been long lost until it was released by VoiceMasters. Jim had created a "work tape" with just his voice and guitar, and we've overdubbed new instrumentation by USING THE SAME STUDIO in the former Reeves home in Madison, Tennessee in which the song was born so many years ago.

Though the elegant Gentleman Jim wore tuxedos and even sang with a symphony orchestra, toured internationally and had many crossover pop hits, he remained a country boy at heart.
An excellent rhythm guitarist, he often accompanied himself in live concerts. Many of these tracks originally consisted of just Jim and his guitar, to which have been added some country-flavored accompaniment. Included are fiddle, steel, upright bass, mandolin, acoustic guitar and more! Plus on other songs, when appropriate, lush string sections, oboe, piccolo, flute and even French horn are featured (such as on a NEW version of the smash hit, "Distant Drums.")
You even get to hear Jim sing jazz, which he liked to do when frequenting nightclubs where he would sometimes get up on stage to sing for free. "Crying Is My Favorite Mood" is a bluesy number which we've given a Nelson Riddle-style arrangement.
